Root canal treatment could be necessary if you are experiencing constant tooth pain, extreme sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, and gum swelling around your gums. At Dental Arts of Bixby, Dr. Soren Michaelsen and our skilled team offer gentle yet effective root canal therapies designed to save natural teeth while relieving discomfort. Using modern techniques and advanced technology, we make every attempt to keep the process as stress-free and comfortable for our patients as possible.
A root canal is a dental procedure designed to treat infected or damaged tooth pulp. The pulp, located within each tooth, contains nerves and blood vessels that, when compromised by deep decay, cracks, or trauma, can become inflamed and cause an infection. Root canal therapy removes damaged tissues, disinfects the area, and seals off further infections to preserve overall tooth health.
Without root canal treatment, an infected tooth can quickly lead to abscesses, severe pain, and even tooth loss. With proper care, however, natural teeth can remain healthy for years with proper preservation techniques.
With root canal therapy, we are able to preserve a tooth that might otherwise have to be pulled.
As the name implies, a canal of soft tissue runs to the bottom of each tooth’s root. When a tooth becomes infected as a result of an impact injury or deep decay, the tooth can be saved if this soft tissue is cleaned out.
We open the top of the tooth, clean out nerve and blood supply tissue and sterilize the canal. The space is filled with sterile material and then the tooth is closed with a filling. A strengthening crown is recommended so the tooth will last for many more years.
