Understanding Full Mouth Tooth Loss

The loss of all upper and lower teeth, also known as complete edentulism in medical terms, affects more than just the teeth. It impacts many aspects of life, including basic functions, emotional well-being, and even daily activities. Let's take a closer look at the causes and effects:

  • Severe Gum Disease:

A severe form of gum disease called Periodontitis is the leading cause of tooth decay. Untreated, this condition can lead to the destruction of the gums, underlying bones, and ultimately tooth loss. Periodontal disease can be prevented and managed with regular dental visits and good oral hygiene.

  • Untreated Dental Decay:

If tooth decay is not treated promptly, it can progress until the tooth becomes irreparably damaged, and extraction may be necessary. Tooth decay is caused by poor oral hygiene, sugary food consumption, and insufficient dental care. Early interventions, such as regular dental visits, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants, are effective in preventing tooth decay

  • Injury or Trauma:

Sports injuries, accidents, and other types of trauma may result in tooth loss. In such cases, immediate dental care is necessary to determine the extent of the injury and the best course of treatment for replacing or preserving the affected teeth.

  • Predisposition to Genetic Conditions:

Genetics can influence an individual's susceptibility to certain dental conditions, including tooth loss. Some people inherit traits that make them more susceptible to certain conditions, such as periodontal diseases or weak enamel. This increases their risk of losing teeth over time. Although genetics can't be changed, proactive dental care can reduce the impact genetic factors have on oral health.

  • Poor Dental Hygiene Habits:

Lack of brushing and flossing and frequent dental visits lead to plaque and tartar accumulation, which leads to tooth decay and gum disease. It is important to establish and maintain good oral hygiene habits at a young age to prevent dental problems from progressing.

This is the best office ever! Dr.Shuck is great at what he does and so are his assistants! Larixa and Hannah have both been so helpful with making my temporary crowns every time I needed. Tiana and Lindsay were both wonderful in helping me on the financial side. Darci was wonderful at getting my gums healthy. Overall the front office will greet you and make sure you well taken care of when waiting in the lobby. I would definitely recommend this office to any and everyone I can.

Great dental office with advanced technology equipment.  They cover a vast array of dental needs.  Larixa has been a gem building my bridge and helping me every time I've come into the office. Tiana is an angel and held my hand thru a couple procedures (truly comforting). Darcy is a great hygienist and all about keeping gums healthy. Lindsey  the office manager, has been thorough in paperwork and getting me in on appt when tight.  So, between a  routine checkup to intense work, they can do it all!
